On June 28, the first batch of generating units of the Jinsha River Baihetan Hydropower Station, which attracted worldwide attention, was put into operation. Baihetan Hydropower Station is a major national-level "West-to-East Power Transmission" project in China, and it is also the world's largest hydropower station under construction.

Among the 16 hydro-generator units of Baihetan Hydropower Station, 8 units use silicon steel products produced by BWJT. Among them, there are 6 on the left bank and 2 on the right bank. The generators are manufactured by Dongfang Electric Factory and Harbin Electric Factory.

BWJT delivered the first silicon steel product for manufacturing motors to Dongfang Electric in December 2018, and completed the delivery of all materials in the third quarter of 2020. It has produced more than 10,000 tons of non-oriented top silicon steel products, and all batches of products have passed the inspection and acceptance at one time. .

It is understood that special non-oriented high-grade silicon steel is required to manufacture super-large hydraulic motors. Over the years, BWJT has accumulated rich experience in the production of non-oriented silicon steel for motors. In order to play the main role of the country's heavy equipment manufacturing, BWJT began research and development of silicon steel materials for Baihetan Hydropower Station in 2017.

Baihetan Hydropower Station has very strict requirements on the performance of silicon steel materials in all aspects. There are 20 extremely demanding indicators. The water-soluble C6 environmental protection coating is also applied for the first time. There are four major difficulties in production, including steelmaking, rolling, annealing, and coating. , Manufacturing is extremely difficult.

In order to overcome difficulties, BWJT has cooperated with multiple departments to carry out process research in the whole process, improve the chemical composition of the feed steel grades, innovate the process control of steelmaking and hot rolling processes, and boldly apply new methods in coating process technology and process control management, etc. In the end, more than 10 technical problems were overcome, and mass production of high-precision products was realized, which strongly supported the successful commissioning of Baihetan Hydropower Station.
