Luxfer Gas Cylinders’ hydrogen storage solution featured on Tevva’s hydrogen electric truck

Luxfer Gas Cylinders has revealed its involvement in the development of the UK's first mass-produced hydrogen-electric truck.

Tevva's 7.5-tonne heavy-duty truck, unveiled in June 2022, features a "plug-and-play" hydrogen storage system, which was designed and built in three months in partnership with Luxfer, according to the Nottingham, UK-based company.

The system integrates three of Luxfer's G-Store H2 cylinders, which use the company's unique liner treatment technology, making it the world's largest capacity, fastest filling and lightest Type 3 alternative fuel cylinder.

Using Luxfer's hydrogen storage technology, Tevva says its hydrogen-electric trucks will be able to achieve a range of 310 miles (500 kilometers), providing a zero-emission solution for a range of fleet operators.

Jim Gregory, European Business Development Manager, Luxfer Gas Cylinders, said: "Tevva approached us in October 2020 as they were looking for a company focused on safety and innovation that would meet their Supplier Code of Conduct and who would collectively help make hydrogen accessible today. and sustainable clean fuels.”

"The system uses our three G-Stor H2 cylinder design, which is ideal for use and can be inserted seamlessly into existing structures."

"This solution offers the best of both worlds and we are very proud to be involved in bringing this concept to life, a landmark launch that shows how the UK is leading the way in hydrogen technology."

Luxfer's G-Stor H2 cylinders are deployed on Wrightbus' fleet of hydrogen-powered double-decker buses when they first hit the streets of Aberdeen, Scotland, in 2021.

Commenting on Luxfer's involvement, a spokesperson for Tevva REX said: "From our initial prototype work to the milestone of launching our first hydrogen electric truck, the team at Luxfer Gas Cylinders has provided us with tremendous support. We look forward to Continue to work with Luxfer to further improve the design of the custom hydrogen storage system before the 7.5-ton hydrogen electric vehicle goes into production.”
