On January 6, 2022, SHQT Hydrogen Energy Technology Corporation and the Chinese Academy of Sciences established the Hydrogen Energy Membrane Materials Research Center.

In the future, the hydrogen energy membrane materials research center jointly established by the two parties will mainly conduct R&D work on PBI materials and high-temperature proton exchange membranes.

PBI, or polybenzimidazole, has good thermal stability and mechanical properties. After acid doping, it will produce suitable electrical conductivity, which is very suitable for the electrolyte membrane in hydrogen fuel cells. The PBI electrolyte membrane in the environment where natural gas is converted into hydrogen is not only very high in conductivity, but can also withstand high temperatures of 120 to 500 degrees Celsius and carbon monoxide pollution, making the gas purification process easier and more economical and reliable than the atmosphere diaphragm. .

The high-temperature proton exchange membrane, or HT-PEM, is an emerging hydrogen production technology route that has emerged in the past two years. At present, internationally renowned chemical companies such as BASF are betting on the route of high-temperature proton exchange membranes.

The biggest advantage of the high-temperature proton exchange membrane route is that battery fuel is easier to obtain. It can bypass the complex hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and hydrogen transportation and other high-cost operations, and use simpler designs to obtain higher energy density liquid fuels, and It can greatly reduce the weight of the vehicle body and is especially suitable for the heavy truck transportation industry.

The cooperation between the two parties will accelerate the development of hydrogen fuel cells in the field of commercial vehicles, help promote the advancement of hydrogen energy technology and complement the industrial chain, and enhance the core technology competitiveness of domestic hydrogen power.
