Solvay launches a new generation of Amodel® PPA for electric vehicles

Recently, Solvay launched a new generation of Amodel® PPA (polyterephthalamide) materials designed to meet the higher performance and sustainability requirements of electric and electronic applications in electric vehicles.

Among them, Amodel® PPA AE 9933 and AE 9950 belong to the Supreme series, which are suitable for electronic motors and inverter busbars operating at 800 volts and higher. These two materials have both the best-in-class relative tracking index (CTI) and high thermal cycle impact resistance of -40℃~150℃. Compared with the traditional PPA technology, the technology of the Amodel® PPA Supreme series grades is very breakthrough, even if exposed to the peak temperature above 150 ℃ for a long time, the CTI can be kept unchanged.

The current development trend is to integrate electronic motors, power electronics and gearboxes into a comprehensive electric drive. Solvay’s new halogen-free flame-retardant Amodel® Bios HFFR R1-133 and HFFR R1-145 meet this trend. New demand coming. These materials have CTI values greater than 600 volts, heat resistance greater than 120°C, and excellent dimensional stability, which helps to design highly compact systems through miniaturized components. At the same time, they can provide UL94 V0 flame retardant rating without halogen flame retardants. In addition to solving the safety problem when thermal excursion is out of control, this halogen-free formula can also minimize the risk of additive ionization corrosion.

In addition, Solvay also offers Amodel® Bios AE R1-133, an electronic and electrical friendly material specially developed for surface mount data connectors that can withstand the flow soldering process without blistering. Compared with ordinary PPA, this material has higher impact resistance and weld line strength, allowing designers to further reduce the wall thickness of the connector, thereby reducing the printed circuit board space occupied by as much as 50%, in order to Other electronic devices provide more space.
