Covestro and Nexeo Plastics develop Addigy®: a PC/ABS filament for 3D printing

Nexeo Plastics, the world's leading distributor of thermoplastic resins, has collaborated with material manufacturer Covestro to develop and launch a new PC/ABS 3D printing filament Addigy®FPB 2684 3D. From now on, this filament can be purchased through Nexeo Plastics' distribution platform.

This product sets the standard for performance by maintaining its toughness and UV resistance in high temperature environments up to 122 degrees Celsius, making it possible to print parts for outdoor applications. In addition, this new filament is very easy to print, providing opportunities for wider applications of 3D printing. Nexeo Plastics and Covestro proved this by successfully printing a 250% magnified miniature boat on the Ultimaker S3 printer.

This polycarbonate mixture is available in black and white colors, with filament diameters of 1.75 and 2.85 mm. According to customer requirements, more colors will be added to the PC/ABS product portfolio later this year.

Years of cooperation

The development of Addigy® FPB 2684 is a collaborative effort. It produces a material that provides an extremely smooth surface finish, while providing impact resistance and superior strength. Utilizing its deep experience in technical support services, Nexeo Plastics promoted the development of Covestro's Addigy® FPB 2684 by using test scenarios based on the actual printing needs of the market. Ultimaker has jointly developed printing parameters for its Ultimaker S3 and S5 series printers, which can be downloaded on Ultimaker Cura Marketplace.

Patrick Rosso, Global Head of Additive Manufacturing at Covestro, said: "In the past few years, Nexeo Plastics and Covestro have worked extensively on customer applications and OEM material requirements. This collective know-how It laid the foundation for launching this product on the Ultimaker Cura platform in order to provide our customers with the most convenient and reliable PC printing solutions."

Paul Tayler, President and CEO of Nexeo Plastics, said: “As part of our business growth strategy, we continue to invest in expanding our 3D printing product portfolio and support services. Our cooperation with Covestro highlights our commitment to provide Excellent products and cooperate with industry leaders to support a wide range of user and manufacturing requirements."

Recently, in May 2021, Covestro also developed a glass fiber-filled 3D printing material for 3D particle printing.
