Toray establishes high-performance resin research center in Europe

On July 1, Toray`s resin technology center opened in the Automotive Centre Europe (AMCEU) near Munich, Germany. The center mainly provides technical support to Toray Resins Europe GmbH, Toray Resins Europe GmbH, the marketing and sales company of Toray's European resin products.

The main task of the Resin Technology Center is to provide timely technical data in Europe and support customer application development by assisting in part design optimization through CAE simulation analysis, innovative material development and defect analysis/evaluation. With the help of this center, Toray will solve the rapid expansion of the digital design of resin products through the long-term durability data and highly accurate mechanical performance data required for reinforced materials. It will improve the advanced simulation capabilities of fiber-reinforced composite parts, especially considering its unique anisotropy.

The new resin technology center will provide materials with high tracking performance and heat cycle resistance, and provide crack prevention support analysis. This is to solve problems such as cracking of molded resin products such as metal insert insulation high-voltage parts due to thermal cycling during cooling and heating, and this problem is increasing with the advent of electric vehicles.

In the automotive field, the technical center will work with automotive customers to cooperate with AMCEU. AMCEU's molding, analysis, and evaluation capabilities can maximize Toray's advanced materials, including fibers, films, resins, and carbon fiber composites. Therefore, Toray strengthens technical solutions to meet European needs by providing construction methods and structural design features that match its materials, as well as joint development with European automakers and component manufacturers.

For the European automotive industry, with the tightening of environmental regulations (such as reducing carbon dioxide emissions by improving fuel efficiency), it is accelerating the transfer of development resources to electric vehicles and autonomous driving technologies. Therefore, as the market for power control and communication-related components continues to expand, the demand for high-performance resins will continue to grow. In addition, in industrial applications such as electrical and electronic equipment and housing-related parts, there is an increasing demand for high-performance resins that meet the requirements for heat resistance and chemical resistance.

With the opening of the resin technology center, Toray will accelerate the improvement of European customer satisfaction by quickly grasping local needs and formulating solutions, and realize the global expansion of the resin business centered on automotive applications.

Toray has always made the expansion of growth areas a key priority of its mid-term management plan AP-G2022. In Europe, Toray is a world leader in initiatives to achieve economic sustainability. Toray will develop and supply high-performance resins locally based on its commitment to innovative ideas, technologies and products, and contribute to the community.
