Teknor Apex launches halogen-free flame-retardant glass fiber reinforced nylon 66 composite material

Teknor Apex, Pawtucket, RI recently launched three halogen-free flame-retardant glass fiber reinforced nylon 66-based compounds, which have a UL94 rating of V0. Compared with standard glass-filled flame-retardant nylon 66, they have higher injection fluidity and excellent Surface finish and better performance retention.

The glass fiber content of A3H7G3, C3H2G4 and C3H2G6 are 15%, 20% and 30%, respectively. Their halogen-free flame-retardant formulations can meet European RoHS and WEEE directives and internal OEM requirements. Teknor Apex recommends that these compounds be applied to the housings of household appliances and power tools, electronic handheld devices, electric vehicle charging infrastructure components, and certain automotive chassis components that require flame retardancy.

Relevant personnel said: "Teknor Apex draws on the chemical principles of semi-aromatic nylon to enhance the ability of these compounds to maintain tensile properties and rigidity after being exposed to moisture. A3H7G3 products are currently being used in automobile engine covers. After aging, its performance retention rate reached OEM specifications."

For the C3H2G4 grade reinforced with 20% glass, the comparison of dry molding and conditioning performance shows that the notched Izod impact strength increased from 7KJ/m2 to 10KJ/m2; the tensile strength decreased from 125 MPa to 85 MPa; fracture The elongation increased from 3.0 to 3.4%; the tensile modulus decreased from 8300 MPa to 5500 MPa.

According to reports, these compounds enable engineers to meet increasingly stringent requirements for halogen-free FR formulations, while also finding new ways to consolidate parts. "Including grades with halogen-free stabilization, these grades are designed for sensitive electronic applications, because ion migration will cause the failure of electronic components. We continue to expand our work in nylon and other engineering plastics (such as PBT, PPA and even PP) In the FR product series, several new grades have entered the final stage of commercialization. We hope to have a polymer-neutral method and provide optimized solutions for individual customers’ problems."
